Young Raj Tarun is coming to this Sankranthi’s film fight as an underdog with his Rangula Raatnam movie. Well, he got a great edge of emerging out as a 2018 Sankranthi winner as the two big tickets- Pawan Kalyan’s Agnyaathavaasi & Balakrishna’s Jai Simha failed to show the impact on the box office. Now, we will see how far he utilized this opportunity in the following Rangula Raatnam review.

Story: Vishnu (Raj Tarun) is an easy going young man who is living his life on his own terms. He is raised by his mother (Sithara) as he lost his father in his childhood. As the story moves forward, he meets Keerthi (Chitra Shukla) and falls in love with her.

However, things turn different as Vishnu finds Keerthi thought process is exactly opposite to him. At this juncture, he gets a big jolt in his life. What is that big thing that happened to him? How he overcomes through that hurdle? Will he marries Keerthi or not? These are the questions will be answered on the silver screen.

Actors & Performances:

Raj Tarun: He did his best for the role of Vishnu and especially his comedy timing with Priyadarshi is fantastic.

Chitra Shukla: She is ‘OK’ but not great in both the aspects of screen presence & acting.

Sithara: She portrayed the role of Mother to Raj Tarun and she gave cent percent to the role. The mother-son relationship blossomed on the screen due to her performances.

Priyadarshi: He is the relief thing in the whole movie. If he comes onscreen then he will make you laugh in the film.

Analysis:

First time director Sri Ranjani took an attracting point to showcase on screen. Somehow, she fell short of executing it in a perfect manner. Most importantly the scenes lack the pace and the most of the scenes came out with a high dosage of drama.

The personal tragedy to Raj Tarun is well captured on the silver screen. Raj delivered subtle performance in the emotional scenes. The main drawback in the whole film is the lead pair. Director fails to create that special magic between the lead pair in the movie which is the main USP for the entire flick.

The screenplay could have been written well as this film loses in that category. Excluding the scenes of Priyadarshi in the second half, everything is pretty normal and routine. Finally, this film would have been made better.

Plus Points:

+ Conflict Point

+ Raj Tarun
+ Priyadarshi
+ Production Values

Minus Points:

- Screenplay

Technical Points:

Production values from Annapurna Studios are good and music from Sricharan Pakala is apt for the film.

Final Verdict:

Rangula Raatnam: This film would have been made better.
