Tollywood Summer Retreat

June 01, 2013 - 08:20 AM IST

Summer has been bad for Telugu films at the box office. Baadshah made some noise while Shadow and Greekuverudu were scary, even Puri did not leave his footprint on his new release Iddarammayilatho. Courtesy of IPL there has been a huge dent at the box office resulting in an average summer collection. At a time when the monsoons are welcoming the first drizzle, some movies are arriving at the box office to create halchal. They are getting ready to provide some recreation at the far end of this scorching summer. Let’s hope at least these will satiate the viewer’s appetite for good movies and leave their imprint on the box office. By the way let’s focus on which movies will welcome the end of this sizzling summer and what will be their expectations?

Yevadu, Balupu, Sahasam, Paisa, Action, OM, Kevvu Keka, Intinta Annamayya, Something Something, Prema Katha Chitram, DK Bose and the list continues with an expectation for each movie. There are small movies, big movies and average movies which are getting ready for a show off at the box office. While Yevadu has just wrapped up its shooting, most of the movies have already finished and waiting for the right time to strike. Hope the time has arrived with the monsoons.

Charan was supposed to release Yevadu and Toofan during the summer but unfortunately Toofan was mired in a controversy and got delayed. Now Yevadu is ever ready, with the unit deciding to release it in the first quarter of July. If everything goes to plan, even Toofan might end up competing with Yevadu. But Charan has different thoughts, he wants at least 45 day gap between these two movie releases. Since all the big flicks have already been screened, this is the right time for other movies to arrive at the box office. Balupu was supposed to be released in the mid of April and May, but due to IPL and clash with other big budget releases it was delayed by the unit members. They are planning to release in the first week of June. Sahasam starring Gopichand under the direction of Chandra Sekhar Yeleti has already been finished and is waiting for the right time. It’s a treasure hunt movie with Tapsee as the female lead. There are chances that both Balupu and Sahasam might hit the market in a week gap. This season is also welcoming two 3D movies: OM and Action, which have been made beyond its market value but with high technical standards.  They both are estimated at a budget of 45Cr. 3D experiences for Telugu viewers are quite new, and hope they appreciate it.  Kalyan Ram has pinned all his hopes on his upcoming release OM and even the entire film fraternity is waiting in curiosity.

Krishna Vamshi movies intrigue every one and even the critics are in waiting to find out about his new film. He is about to show the magic of money with his movie Paisa, starring Nani and Catherine Tresa in the main lead. His movies are beyond hit or flop and hope it leaves an impact on the viewers. This film is also going to provide a visual feast in the month of June. Along with this, Siddarth’s Something-Something, DK Bose, Jagadguru Adi Shankara, Pavithra, Prem Oka Maikam etc. are going to make a noise just before the re-opening of schools. The second half of summer will be creating lot of halchal in comparison to the first.

But, will this halchal result in box office collections? Only the viewers can answer this question!
