The Election Commission of India has selected the popular Bollywood actor Aamir Khan as their new “National Icon” for the country-wide voter awareness campaigns. An agreement is being made between the two parties in a while and this will be purely non-commercial and voluntary. With this, Aamir Khan joins the already existing elite panel of National Icons – APJ Abdul Kalam [former President Of India], Mary Kom [Boxer], MS Dhoni [Cricketer] and Saina Nehwal [Badminton Player].

The main function of Aamir would be getting involved in the audio-visual promotions for increasing the campaign reach and thus educate the youth about the power of their vote. This might include the SVEEP [Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation] which increases the voter turnout!

On the other hand, Tamil film actor Kamal Haasan has been roped in by Tamilnadu State Election Commission to campaign against Cash for Votes. The videos of Kamal are already being aired and Kamal requests the public/voters to think about their future before selling their votes. The promotion campaign says “Let’s vote with conscience and promise that under any circumstance we wouldn’t sell our votes”…
