June 05, 2014 - 12:40 PM IST Rudramadevi

Thota Tharani is renowned for his art work in many of the memorable films in Indian Cinema and he is currently busy in designing the sets of Gunasekhar’s Rudhrama Devi movie. Thota Tharani has received two national awards, two filmfares and 4+ state awards in his long career as an art director and production designer. He has appeared for a few seconds in the introduction song of Rajinikanth’s Shivaji film for which he himself was the art director.

As per the latest news, Thota Tharani will be playing the lead character of Swami Chinmayananda in an upcoming English documentary titled The Quest. As everyone knows, Chinmayananda was instrumental in the establishment of the world famous Chinmaya Mission. This documentary is being directed by Kalyana Samayal Sadham fame RS Prasanna.

When asked about the same, Thota Tharani has said “This project came to me a few months ago. As everyone knows, I’m more comfortable behind the scenes and not in front of the camera and so, I didn’t know what to do. But the makers convinced me. It was a spiritual subject and I was immediately attracted to it. Also, a lot of people felt that I closely resemble Swami Chinmayananda and it was an honour for me to play him on screen. It was a challenge to act in front of a team because I’m more comfortable with my art work, which happens mostly behind the camera.”

Let’s wish the best for our favourite art director Thota Tharani on his debut as a full-fledged actor with The Quest!
