All Eyes on Actress Turned Director

July 08, 2014 - 10:40 AM IST Venkatesh | Drushyam

Amongst all the departments in movies, film direction is the toughest of all as it’s the Director who needs to control the whole crew and it’s he/she who receives all the blame if the movie is back fired. We have seen Heroes or writers turning directors after spending few years in the industry, but rarely have we seen lady directors in Tollywood.

Except for a few names likes Vijaya Nirmala who holds the Guinness record for most number of films by a lady director, B Jaya and Nandini Reddy who directed couple of films.
Generally Heroines shift to character roles or TV serials once their prime is over. But, one lady seems to have aimed differently and decided to wield the megaphone. She is none other than the well known actress of the 70s and 80s Sripriya who ruled the roost in Kollywood and Mollywood with her great sex appeal. She is now making her debut as a director in Tollywood. She is the director for the forthcoming release Drushyam a family thriller starring Venkatesh and Meena.

The reason behind Sri Priya's direction of Drushyam is that she bagged the remake rights of the film and approached Venkatesh. Things got finalized looking at her clarity and conviction. The outcome will be known on July 11th as the film releases on that date.
