Varun About Love, Lip Lock and B'day Plans

July 21, 2014 - 07:42 AM IST Varun Sandesh

Varun Sandesh is termed as one of the youthful and dynamic actors in the younger generation heroes of Tollywood. He impressed the audience with his debut performance in Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days. Kotha Bangaru Lokam which came later also had him in a challenging role. He went on to carve a niche for himself and this talented actor is celebrating his birthday today. On this eve, here is an exclusive chitchat with the actor:

Hi Varun Sandesh.. Many happy returns of the day!
Hello… Thanks a lot!

How do you feel looking back at your acting career so far?
I am feeling very happy and in fact proud too. It’s exactly 7 years I came to industry. I did 18 movies and two more movies are in sets. People who started with me also did not do these many films. Irrespective of hits and flops, it has been a great learning experience for me. Frankly, I haven’t had a good hit after Emaindhi Ee Vela, yet producers and directors trust me. I feel extremely lucky too!

Was it difficult to measure up to high expectations that were set by your debut film?
I came to the industry when I was 18 years old. Happy Days fetched me huge name and yes…I had to live up to that image. Luckily I never got addicted to the sudden fame and always kept myself grounded. Acting is my real passion and I’m glad I’ve been doing it well through my performances.

Do you think your debut film Happy Days has become a minus for your career?
More or less it might have been. If I did Happy Days after two initial films it would have been much better. Nevertheless, it became a milestone for me as an actor. Kotha Bangaru Lokam which came later has a profound influence on my acting career as well. Audience expected me to do films of such standard and I should say I couldn’t live up to their expectations of late.

What do you think is the main reason behind your flops?
There will be many reasons behind a flop. Last year I had five movie releases. I believe my films need good promotion work and that is where things are going wrong. I will promote my films properly from now on.

How do you choose your subjects?
I look for the director’s confidence in narrating the story. The story shouldn’t look confusing in the first place. That is my main priority.

Did you do any obligatory films in your career?
Some were done for passion and some on pure obligation. I must say I did for both. There were instances where people have skipped my remuneration. But most of my films had good stories. There lies my satisfaction.

Please tell us about your character in the upcoming film Nuvvila Nenila?
I am doing the role of an NRI. It is close to my real life. My character is highly practical and believes that love is a game. It is a good story and it came out really well. In fact, it is a rare privilege to work with celebrated cameraman like Gnanavel garu and my team.

Tell us about the most rumored lip lock scene with your co-star Poorna in this film?
(Smiles) It isn’t really a lip lock. Well, this isn’t a big deal because I’ve already acted in such scenes in my previous films.

Any marriage plans? If yes, would it be an arranged or a love marriage?
(Laughs) As of now nothing serious. I might think about it after a couple of years. Anyway parents would get me married by then (Laughs).  Whether it is arranged or love marriage, time would decide.

Are you looking forward to work with any particular director in the future?
I would want to work with Sekhar Kammula Sir again as I learnt a lot working under him for Happy Days.

About your upcoming projects..
I am doing a dual role for the first time in Lava Kusa. I always thought it is an easy job but now I realize it is not.

Any special birthday plans?
(Smiles) I wouldn’t be staying in the city but go along with friends for a party in the outskirts.

Thank you and wish you a Happy Birthday!
Thank you (Smiles)
