No More Small films For Theatres?

Being part of the audience, you may not be much aware of it but if you happen to be closer to Tollywood then you would know certain harsh realities. It is always a herculean task for the small budget movies to get theatres for release. Even if they do get theatres, getting the crowds to the theatres is another big challenge.

So, a new theory has now begun to make rounds. Making small movies keeping in mind theatrical release and its collections is no use. There is no guarantee that the people will come just because a movie has released. The small budget flick producers are spending lakhs on promo costs.

They are putting hoardings, newspaper and website ads and doing aggressive promotions on a particular TV channel. But instead, the new idea is, there must be no theatre release and it should only be on TV. The producer must strike a deal with the TV channel and cost recovery can be done through ad revenue and shared. If cinema is good TRP will work and if it is aired 6 or 7 times in a year, investment is recovered and after that, it is going to be only profits. Let us wish the small budget filmmakers think about it.
