Banning films has become a usual routine and the most bothering aspect for filmmakers these days. While filmmakers view it as a spade thrown at their freedom of expression, governments cite public order as the main reason behind these bans.
And the “Messenger of God” is no exception to this. MSG2 - Messenger Of God (second part in the Messenger of God series) is a popular Hindi film produced, directed by Dera Sachcha Saudha Foundation president Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh that released on the 18th of September. The film faced severe allegations from the Punjab community that attire of the hero (Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh) and few scenes are hurting the sentiment of the Sikh community. A subsequent ban was also imposed on this film in several states like Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and latest reports reveal that Madhya Pradesh state also banned the film’s release.
In a way, this ban controversy has turned a promotional tool for MSG2 and the film is slowly finding some audience now.
