Young Director fails as Distributor

October 15, 2015 - 08:15 PM IST Harish Shankar | Subramanyam For Sale

Harish Shankar is the one director who came back to form with his latest flick Subramanyam for Sale. In a way, he gave a strong reply to his critics and naysayers.

Interestingly for the first time, he not only directed Subramanyam for Sale but also distributed this film in the US. This commercial entertainer opened to full houses and has been declared as one of the decent hits of this year and also the biggest hit in Sai Dharam’s career as well. However, Subramanyam could not manage to make a good sale in the US. The film didn’t fare well in the US market and Harish who distributed the film in some key parts of US apparently saw losses too. With no established stars in the film and on top of it, the film being a pakka mass masala commercial entertainer, Subramanyam for Sale failed to impress the NRI audience.

Nowadays directors are turning distributors of late and Maruthi is one lucky filmmaker who saw profits distributing his own film Bhale Bhale Magadivoy in the overseas. However, Harish tasted success in one field and fumbled in the other. Wishing him better luck next time!
