Can we say it's raining biopics in Tollywood? Most of the folks say yes. With Mahanati, the era of biopics has started in a grand way. Biopics are nothing but an adaptation of a famous person's real-life story and portray the facts in a cinematic way.
Let us take a look at the biopics which are being made in the mills currently. After legendary actress Savitri's biopic was announced, there came up several concepts to make biopics of other popular people too. One of them is NTR's biopic.
NTR's biopic is to star Nandamuri Balakrishna. Though the project is currently under confusion, it will definitely get on the floors soon. Director Krish is expected to take Teja's directorial responsibilities.
Another biopic which was announced was 'YATRA'. Yatra is touted to be the biopic of late Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Malayalam superhero Mammootty is playing YSR and further proceedings are being made.
Rana is all set to portray the iconic wrestler Kodi Ramamurthy Naidu who was a champion in 90's. Also, Shobhan Babu's biopic and Tamil Nadu's Jayalalitha's biopics are on the cards. The interesting thing about biopic is that we get to relive the past with these. On the other hand, there is 'Sanju' which is a Hindi biopic being made with Ranbir Kapoor portraying Sanjay Dutt's real life.
However, for all the biopics coming up, MAHANATI has set a benchmark. The makers of the other biopics need to keep this in mind and plan accordingly. Because for Mahanati the best the makers could do was to keep that emotional connect of legendary actress Savitri with her fans and Telugu audience. Though the factual representation is twisted with the cinematic liberty, the makers need to take care that the audience gets connected.
For Mahanati, Keerthy's Suresh's resemblance to Savitri was definitely a plus. So, the biopic makers need to focus on how much closer they can portray the real-life figures in the movies.
