Why Mahanati Failed In Tamil?

June 26, 2018 - 07:00 PM IST Mahanati

The hangover effect has still not lowered on the biopic ‘Mahanati’ based on the life of the legendary actress Savitri. The film had also released simultaneously in Tamil but it failed to evoke this kind of response. With this, many were wondering why it happened and recently when Amazon Prime came up with ‘Mahanati’ and its Tamil version ‘Nadigaiyar Thilagam’ they got the answer.

All Telugu audience watched Tamil version out of excitement and curiosity to understand why it didn’t work. Those details are there in social media now. For starters, there are no scenes involving Savitri and the Tamil iconic stars like MGR and Sivaji. Instead, Savitri was shown as a total Telugu speaking starlet with some Tamil projection.

Also, identifying Telugu characters such as L V Prasad, K V Reddy was not that easy. That way, it didn’t really fail but it was not able to deliver like the Telugu version. Like how Baahubali worked, the relatability was not attained in Tamil. It is a biopic so it was an attempt to connect to class audience but not naturally. Finally, just one Tamil dialogue is there and mostly Telugu movies were shown in the Tamil version which reflects lack of nativity.
