We all love to experience a film in a cinema theatre but in the past, the industry has faced a serious issue in the form of 'Piracy' and now, online streaming platforms like Amazon Prime & Netflix have become a potential threat to it.
While the producers end up in safe hands, the distributors who shell out hefty money to buy it are facing trouble from the Amazon Prime, an online service that is bringing out most of the Telugu films on their platform in just 30-50 days of release. If a movie comes out on Prime in such a short time, it is generally sending an indication to the cinephiles and viewers to stop going to the theatre. In the recent past, Padi Padi Leche Manasu, Antariksham, KGF, F2 (Fun and Frustration) and NTR-Kathanayakudu have dropped on Amazon Prime even when they are running in theatres. It has apparently led a drop in film collections and viewer count.
The large section of viewers is slowly making a habit of catching the movie on Prime rather than going to cinema theatres at the time of release. This has in a way become a potential threat to the film distributors. Gradually, it has become a serious problem for both the small budget and big budget movies. Last year, the senior producer and distributor Suresh Babu has taken an objection to this trend. So, it is time for the industry bigwigs to quickly design an action plan and save the movie distributors from online streaming platforms.
