Senior actor Girish Karnad passes away

Senior and versatile actor Girish Raghunath Karnad has passed away at his residence in Bangalore, on June 10th, after suffering from multiple organ failure. He was 81 and was born in 1938. Girish has come into fame with the iconic TV serial Malgudi Days which was a runaway hit during those times. He has acted in several Telugu films like Komaram Puli, Dharma Chakram, and Shankar Dada MBBS to name a few.

 

Girish was born in Maharastra. For four decades Karnad has composed plays and directed them at the beginning of his career. He is a recipient of the 1998 Jnanpith Award, the highest literary honor conferred in India. He was conferred Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the Government of India and won four Filmfare Awards, of which three are Filmfare Award for Best Director- Kannada and one is Filmfare Best Screenplay Award.
