Just hours before the release of Varun Tej's Valmiki, the makers had to face an unexpected shock as the district collectors of Anantapur and Kurnool have issued orders to suspend the screening of the film in both districts anticipating the law and order issue.

As a result, the film is not going to release in two major districts of Rayalaseema. It is known that 'Boya' community is protesting against the title of the film right from the beginning. They have been objecting the title for having named it to a mass film with commercial elements. They also had put up protests in various parts of Rayalaseema. So, the GO issued by collectors in order to contain any sort of law and order issue.

But, director Harish Shankar's version is that the character of Gaddalakonda Ganesh was inspired by Valmiki, a thief turned poet who wrote the great Ramayana. Speaking to the media, Harish said the role played Varun is close to Vaalmiki's life story- how a notorious guy turns into a good man. Also, the makers have mentioned that the film will be renamed as 'Gaddalakonda Ganesh'.
