Top 10 Undigested Movies of the Year 2019
From the last few years, the success rate in Tollywood has slumped heavily and only ten films out of 100 are making profits for the producer. The same is the case this year too. Many movies that arrived with high expectations also have bombed at the box-office. As we are inching close to the end of 2019, let us look at the list of highly anticipated films that failed at the box-office:
Kathanayakudu: After the super success of Mahanati, Tollywood is fancied with the idea of making biopic stories. To bring the life of legendary actor turned politician NTR, Balakrishna has partnered with filmmaker Radhakrishna Jagarlamudi. Cinephiles and movie enthusiasts had high expectations for this film, but even the diehard fans of the actor were heavily disappointed with the film after the release.
Mahanayakudu: While the film journey of NTR was captured in Kathanayakudu, the makers have made the second part (Mahanayakudu) to present the political journey of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. Even though part-1 ended up as a disaster, there was a good hype on the second part considering that the political angle in it. But, the flat story without any conflict has made it even worse. The one-sided heroism and elevating NTR as a supreme man did not go well with the audiences. As a result, NTR- Mahanayakudu ended up as a colossal dud.
Vinaya Vidheya Rama: After having taken a big leap in his career with Rangasthalam, there was certainly a great expectation on Ram Charan’s next project. But, director Boyapati had come up with a frustrating subject to direct Mega Powerstar. Vinaya Vidheya Rama left the audience in big disappointment and resentment. VVR is the first flop film of Ram Charan that made him write a public letter to his fans: “We worked really hard to deliver a film which would entertain all of you. Unfortunately, the vision could not get translated properly on-screen and we could not meet your expectations.” After this disaster, Ram Charan has been busy with Rajamouli’s RRR – which is slated for 2020 release. Fans are eagerly waiting to see their favorite star back onscreen.
Dear Comrade: After Geetha Govindham, Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna have paired up again for Dear Comrade. The teaser and trailer made us recall Arjun Reddy. Particularly, all songs in Dear Comrade were chartbusters. But it was not enough, as the main story couldn’t well with the audience. A film can have several layers, but all the layers should be inter-connected. But it was not the case for Dear Comrade. Many states in the movie seemed disconnected and the unproven directional skills of a newcomer led to negative talk right from the first day.
Manmadhudu-2: Manmadhudu (2002) was the most memorable film in Akkineni Nagarjuna’s career. Making use of the same title, actor turned director Rahul Ravindran has made Manmadhudu-2. Though it was made colorfully, the subject of the film was clueless. There is nothing in the film to celebrate, expect the fact that Nagarjuna looked fit and ravishing.
Gang Leader: Nani has been part of two films this year – Gang Leader and Jersey. While Jersey emerged as a classic milestone film in Natural Star’s career, Gang Leader could not impress the audiences. Vikram Kumar, who made Manam, Ishq and 24, directed Gang Leader. But, Vikram’s mark was clearly missing and Nani alone could not lift the movie. As a result, Gang Leader left theatres without making any profits for the makers.
Chanakya: Actor Gopichand is going through a rough patch these days. He’s not been able to score success from the last few years. This year, he teamed up with cameraman turned filmmaker Thiru for a spy action thriller Chanakya. But it didn’t change the fate of Gopichand and added another flop to his career. The film touted as an action thriller, neither had action episodes nor thrilling elements.
Voter: Off late, Manchu Vishnu has been staying away from films these days. This year, he has come to theatres with Voter but left theatres without any trace. The film couldn’t make any noise at the box-office and there’s no element in the story to attract audiences. Without any promotions and marketing, Voter released in cinemas after general elections and initial viewers attacked it for copying several dialogues from social media.
90 ML: After the success of RX100, Karthikeya has delivered third straight flop in the form of 90 ML. Generally, audiences enjoy a drinking scene in theatres. But, the director of the film has decided to make a full-length film based on drinkers and drinking episodes. With old school comedy, the romantic drama released in the first week of December closed its business in a big loss.
Ranarangam: It has not been a great year for Sharwanand, who failed with Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Ranarangam. For Ranarangam, the actor changed his look completely but it didn't quite attract our audiences. The story of the film was inspired by Godfather and Sharwa played the role of a don for the first time in his career. At the same time, he also essayed a young boy character. Even though he delivered an impressive performance, the film didn't work for some reason. Director Sudheer Varma contributed to the movie with great visuals but couldn't execute the drama well.
