Producer Dil Raju's Shocking Comments on Spoiling Audiences

The COVID era has changed the dynamics of the film-watching experience in the country. Especially in Telugu, audiences have become closer to OTT platforms and developed a habit of preferring OTTs over theatres. Now, this has become a problem for all producers to pull crowds to theatres.

Speaking at an event recently, Dil Raju opened up on this scenario. Telugu has no OTT window rule because many films are being made available on streaming platforms in just four weeks. This gives viewers comfort in the fact that they can skip the film in theatres and wait a few weeks to watch it in the comfort of their homes.

Speaking at an event, Dil Raju urged audiences not to dismiss small films and encouraged them to visit theaters to watch them. "We have spoiled the audience. We've made them comfortable at home, telling them the movie will be on OTT in four weeks. We've prevented them from coming to the theaters."

These comments have ignited a debate within Tollywood. People are now wondering if Dil Raju's statements are an admission of the industry's role in the declining theater attendance, leading to renewed discussions about whether producers are to blame for the current situation.

On the other hand, another producer, Bunny Vas, also shared his view, reacting to Dil Raju's comments.

Bunny Vas said, "Unless we have unity, we can not take a decision. The chamber can not decide the same. The exhibitors and distributors should also be involved, and collectively, we all should make a favorable decision that works for all of us. We should also follow Bollywood where the films won't land up on OTT at least for 8 weeks."
