Actress Kasturi was recently arrested for making controversial remarks about Telugu people, which sparked widespread criticism. The arrest was carried out by the Chennai police, who located her in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. This followed the court's rejection of her anticipatory bail plea. Special teams had been searching for her, and upon confirming her location, they detained her and began transferring her to Chennai.

The controversy stemmed from comments Kasturi made during a program in Chennai on the 3rd of this month. She claimed that the Telugu people who came to serve Tamil kings' harems centuries ago now consider themselves Tamil. She further questioned Dravidian ideologues about their right to claim that Brahmins, who were historically present in the region, were not Tamils.

Kasturi’s remarks were seen as inflammatory, implying a biased view of both Telugu heritage and the Tamil community’s history. Her statement, which included criticism of anti-Brahmin sentiments and practices, led to significant backlash.

Although Kasturi later apologized for her comments, the damage had already resulted in multiple cases being filed against her across various police stations.
