After scoring two consecutive hits with DJ Tillu and Tillu Square, Siddhu Jonnalagadda has now come up with his new film, Jack. Directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar, this movie featured Vaishnavi Chaitanya as the female lead. Touted to be a spy action thriller blended with comedy, Jack has hit the screens today. Here is the review of it:
Story:
Pablo Neruda alias Jack (Siddhu) is an aspiring RAW agent who wants to serve his country. In order to pursue his dream, he also attends an interview for the RAW. Meanwhile, he embarks on a mission to catch a terrorist even before he gets a job as a RAW agent. This led to disturbances between Jack and existing RAW agents. How Jack crosses all hurdles and catches the terrorist becomes the main crux of the film.
Performances:
Siddhu Jonnalagadda is still in Tillu hangover. We feel like watching Tillu, but in a different story and world. Though his comedy timing and dialogue delivery are entertaining, it may become repetitive and boring over a few films. It's high time for him to get out of the Tillu zone when he is doing other films. He falls short in emotional scenes as well. Vaishnavi Chaitanya feels like a miscast in this movie. Her character is there for most of the time, but her chemistry with Siddhu didn't work at all. After Love Me If You Dare, this is yet another disappointing venture from the Baby actress. Senior actors like Prakash Raj and Naresh were wasted in poorly written roles. Brahmaji evokes some laughs but fails to create any impact. The rest were also given poor characters, which doesn't create any impact.
Technical Aspects:
Writer-director Bommarillu Bhaskar might have seen a few entertaining spy action flicks and wanted to replicate the same in Telugu. However, his writing is poor, and we feel that he has been out of his zone while watching this movie. He fails to impress the audience on both the writing and directorial fronts. Achu Rajamani, Suresh Bobbili and Sam CS are the music composers of the film. However, neither the songs nor the background score are praiseworthy. Vijay C Chakravarthy's cinematography is okay. Editor Navin Nooli did his job, but the story wasn't engaging enough for him to cut well. Despite being backed by a big banner like SVCC, Jack's production values are below par.
Review:
The problem with Jack is though it is a spy thriller, it doesn't stick to its genre. Bhaskar tried mixing all ingredients, making it a commercial entertainer rather than a true spy action thriller. There is mother sentiment, love story, patriotism, all mixed into this story. Due to too many such ingredients, Jack lost its taste. The RAW agents in the movie don't carry any seriousness or authenticity. The first half was at least bearable due to engaging comedy. The second half runs flat right from the beginning. The love track and Nepal sequences in the second half test our patience.
Plus Points:
Few Comedy Scenes
Minus Points:
Lead Pair's chemistry
Poor Story and Screenplay
Weak Music and BGM
Final Verdict: Jack is a forgettable venture, both for Siddhu and audiences.
