Story behind Varun Tej's Kanche!

September 15, 2015 - 06:46 PM IST Kanche

Kanche is abuzz in the industry since the project saw the light of the day. Be it the World War backdrop of the film or the promising trailer Krish has presented us or the sheer fact that a fledgling hero from a star family is doing the film, Kanche has many specialties.

We already know the hardships that Varun and the entire cast and crew went through to sculpt Kanche and now director Krish unfolds the inspiration behind Kanche’s story. This dates back to Vedam days and during the shooting of Vedam, he and Allu Arjun happened to visit a navy museum in Vishakapatnam. There they saw a bomb and were shocked to know that it was dropped on Vishakapatnam at the time of World War II. Actually the bomb was dropped by the Japanese to destroy the goods carrier ship that was docked at the Vizag dock yard. Well, fortunately the bomb failed to explode.

Many days later, when he was shooting in Tamil Nadu for the Tamil Version of Vedam, he saw some pictures, medals and letters that the late Queen Victoria wrote to Indian soldiers (during the war time) in a Chettiyar’s house. These things interested and in fact excited Krish to research about India’s contribution in World War II and he was fascinated by the stats. According to the figures, about 25 Lakhs soldiers participated in the war wherein 11,000 were missing and 24,000 found dead.

Krish was then propelled to script a love story in the backdrop of this World War II and the trailer speaks volumes about the film. Kudos to Krish for selecting such a line, adopting a clinical approach for filming it and presenting it on a grand canvas. May his hardship pay off and wishing Kanche to become a landmark film in Telugu cinema…
