Chiru's Khaidi completes 35 years

Chiranjeevi, 63, emerged as 'Megastar' and Mass hero of Telugu Film Industry after his blockbuster film 'Khaidi', a revenge action drama, released 35 years ago on this same day - i.e 28th October, 1983.

This Megastar starrer, clapped by Superstar Krishna, was the biggest turning point in Chiru's 40-year long film career. Initially, this movie was planned with Krishna, but the actor had to turn it down as he could not schedule his dates for it. The chartbuster album of Khaidi, composed by K Chakravarthy is still popular and four out of five songs in this film have been sung by talented S.P Balasubramaniam.

This cult film was directed by A Kodandarami Reddy, who later become a popular director in the film industry. Madhavi, Sumalatha and Rao Gopal Rao also starred in the movie. The police station scene in the film, wherein Chiranjeevi escapes from cops, has become highly popular and it was later mimicked in several other films.

Khaidi was later remade in Bollywood industry with Jeetendra. And, Vishnu Vardhan remade it in Kannada language. Actress Madhavi reprised the female lead role in all three languages.
