Attempting a biopic itself is a challenge and if it is a biopic on a living person turns out as one of the most difficult projects on celluloid. However, India’s most successful filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani took up this highly risky challenge of making a biopic on Sanjay Dutt.

He took Ranbir Kapoor to play the on-screen Sanjay Dutt made things interesting and after watching the Ranbir looks, Sanju Teasers & trailer it becomes even more interesting. At this juncture, check out the #SanjuReview here-

Story:

This story starts at Sanjay Dutt’s age of 21 and from there on it unfolds boldly, rustically on the silver screen. This film even shows the pin-point reasons behind his drug addiction, role in Mumbai blasts and the challenging life in Prison.

Rajkumar Hirani with help of his co-writer Abhijat Joshi tried his best in presenting this biopic which is laced with sensitivities & controversies. Here is the #SanjuReview

Actors & Performances:

Ranbir Kapoor: I need to invent a new word to describe or applaud his abundant talent of portraying the Sanjay Dutt role on-screen. With his spotless performance, he once again proved that he is one among the few talented actors across our country.

Paresh Rawal: He is apt for the role of Sunil Dutt and his chemistry with Ranbir Kapoor in the film is outstanding. He is the perfect choice for this key role in the movie.

Vicky Kaushal: He got the third best role in the film to perform and he lived up to the expectations by giving some thundering acting performance. Especially his scenes with Ranbir Kapoor& Paresh Rawal are superb.

Sonam Kapoor, Boman Irani, Arshad Warsi, Dia Mirza, Jim Sarbh, Anushka Sharma & Manisha Koirala sparkled in their brief roles.

Analysis:

As I earlier said, making a biopic is not at all an easy task and the most successful filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani accepted this challenge and made Sanju. Well, he managed to present this biopic in the best possible way and the cast of Sanju also complimented his efforts in bringing out the best output.

Rajkumar & Abhijeet cleverly scripted the screenplay for this movie as they rightfully incorporated the right scenes in the right portions. Dialogues also elevated the scenes in which Paresh Rawal-Ranbir Kapoor featured and their chemistry as Dad-Son worked really well.

Although Raju has clearly taken some cinematic liberties and showcased Sanjay Dutt’s view side in most of the controversies. Sanjay Dutt’s struggles in his life were captured in the most sensitive fashion way and the lead actor’s performances make us show our empathy to Sanjay Dutt.

However, Rajkumar Hirani’s trademark comedy portions were missed in this movie as those scenes have got no place in the biopic of Sanju. The movie length in the second half may turn out as a roadblock to the movie.

Finally, Raju ends this movie with “Kuch Toh Log Kahenge” quote as he symbolically said-“ No Matter What… Just Do What You Believe In…”

Technical Aspects:

The Cinematography from Ravi Varman is outstanding and it set the right tone for the movie. Songs from AR Rahman are fine and the BGM suited to the mood of the film.
