'Yatra' is undoubtedly one of the much-awaited biopics in Tollywood. The movie is based on the life story of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. YSR's Padayatra is going to be the major element in the film directed by Mahi V Raghav. Ending the long wait, the movie has finally hit the screens today on February 8th, 2019. Suhasini played a vital role in this movie. Shashi Devi Reddy and Vijay Chilla under 70 MM Entertainment banner pooled resources for this film. Let's see how far the movie succeeded in impressing the audience. Here is the review of the film.
Story:
The film is all about YSR's Padayatra that he went on, during 2003. The film narrates many incidents around Padayatra and also showcases how YSR has become the genuine people's leader.
Performances:
Mammootty's commendable performance is undoubtedly the highlight of the film. As it is a biopic, the entire movie revolves around the character of Mammootty and the actor has delivered a breathtaking performance which is one of the driving factors for the film. After Mammootty, Jagapathi Babu's performance will grab the attention. The senior hero has delivered a stunning performance. Suhasini needs a special mention as she has portrayed her role beautifully. As usual, Rao Ramesh went under the skin of the character and performed well. Ashrita Vemuganti delivered a convincing performance. Anasuya's screen presence is also outstanding. She has justified her role. Posani Krishna Murali gave an honest performance. Sachin Khedekar is perfect for his character. The rest of the cast also made their presence felt.
Technical Aspects:
From the starting scene to the end, director Mahi V Raghav has succeeded in keeping the audience stick to the chairs. He has narrated the story well. He showcases some essential scenes in YSR's life. The production values of Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy under 70 MM Entertainment are extraordinary. Music by K is excellent. Not only the songs, but his background score is also fantastic. Cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan did a decent job. His camera angles are good. Editing by A Sreekar Prasad is neat.
Analysis:
Yatra is a biopic that is different from all others in terms of the format, making and story-telling. Director Mahi V Raghav stepped into a zone where he felt the need for elevating a character in an authentic style. YSR is regarded as a people's leader by everyone, and the movie glorifies his journey into the path of victory in 2004 with Pada Yatra. The first half of the movie is decent but the second half of the movie exhibits substantial interests. On an outer layer, the film appears like a walk through into the journey of YSR's Padayatra, but on the other side, the film helps YS Jagan in serving his political interests. A right movie in the right time for Jagan to get a benefit from. Keeping all this aside, the film is well-made in almost all the aspects. The YSR fans, Jagan fans, YSRCP workers might celebrate the movie, but the general audiences might not consider it to be a whole-some entertaining movie.
Plus Points:
Mammotty's performance
Dialogues
Story
Minus:
Slow Pace
Music
Final Verdict: Yatra is a perfect tribute to YSR's glorifying victories!
