It's not an easy task to make a crime comedy genre. The director must be well aware of when to serve a crime with comedy and comedy in the crime. If he fails to blend it well, the film will fall flat and will not appeal to the viewers. We have seen a lot of crime comedies in the recent past, but a majority of them didn't work. Let us take a look at how the new crime comedy Brochevarevaru Ra is and understand if comedy+crime worked well!
Story: R3 gang- Rahul, Rocky, and Rambo (Sri Vishnu, Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna) are three good friends, who continuously struggle to pass in Intermediate and settles down in same class. Then comes Mithra (Nivetha Thomas) who also joins the same college. Mithra is the daughter of the college Principal and she is quite scared of the father as he always embarrasses her to stay disciplined. So, she plans to run away from home and takes help of the R3 gang. They plan to play a kidnap drama and blackmail principal for money. But, it will lead them to full of troubles and the rest of the story is about whether they are successful in kidnap drama or not! What are the after-effects of their plan is something you must catch onscreen.
Analysis: The tagline of this film is 'Chitrame Chalanam...Chalaname Chitram'. The complete movie will make you understand what the director means by that line. Because it's a cinema inside the cinema. Its story being narrated by a director to an actress, and the film presents the same story on the sidelines. Director Vivek Athreya brilliantly connected both tracks and it's got an effective screenplay. The comedy generated by R3 gang and Mithra will leave you in splits while watching the film. Among all, the college episodes, paper stealing scene and kidnap drama are highly hilarious. There is nothing to complain about the first half of the film and interval also will appeal to the audiences. The story takes a good turn in the second half of the film as the kidnap drama turns real. Mithra and R3 get struck in deep trouble and at the same time, Mithra goes missing. It's also interesting to see how the director takes you to climax. The way this story is weaved and giving a meaning to every scene is good. But, in this process, the second half seems a little stretched. Compared to the first half, the scope of comedy is very less in the second part. It can be understood but the climax should've been better as it would have fetched a far better result. Also, everyone's story will have a happy ending, except Rahul's.
Actors:
Sri Vishnu as Rahul is quite impressive with his work and he delivers an energetic performance. In fact, he tried to give his best and made efforts to make us laugh. Also, Sathyadev who aspires to become a director delivers a good performance. Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi as friends of Rahul generates hilarious fun and they took the complete responsibility in offering comedy to us. Nivetha Thomas has yet again proved why she is the fabulous actress with her fine performance. Nivetha Pethuraj is good looking and did her task well. Harshavardan will be seen in 2-3 scenes but he made an attempt to leave a smile on our face.
Technicalities:
This is director Vivek Athreya's second movie and he was able to narrate the script flawlessly. His screenplay will surely attract the viewers and the dialogues are very natural. Background score by Vivek Sagar and camera work will impress you. The editing in the second half of the film should have been sharper.
