Story:
Champak Bansal (Irrfan Khan) is a widower from the Udaipur city of Rajasthan. He loves his daughter Tarika Bansal (Radhika Madhan) so much that he does anything for her. Tarika plans to pursue her graduation in London and requests her dad to send her. Champak hesitates as he doesn't want to leave his daughter. There are also a few financial hurdles to clear for admitting Tarika in a prestigious university. Will Champak overcome them? Has Will Tarika's dream come true? To know all this, you should watch the film.
Performances:
Irrfan Khan is the heart and soul of this film. It is really heartwarming to see him back on the big screen after a long time. Angrezi Medium got filmed while Irrfan was recovering from his cancer. The actor was so flawless that you never make out that he is struggling in real life. Radhika Madhan is also equally good in her role. The chemistry between her and Irrfan as daughter and father is a treat to watch. Deepak Dobriyal and Kiku Sharda provide hearty laughter in the film. Kareena Kapoor is elegant in the role of a police officer. Remaining actors like Dimple Kapadia and Ranvir Shorey have also done well.
Technical Aspects:
The writing of Angrexi Medium is a bit outdated. It feels pale in most of the parts. But director Homi Adajania managed to handle it well. Veteran cinematographer Anil Mehta brought stunning visuals for this film. Most of the film got shot in London and the visuals look very good on the big screen. Music by Tanishk Bagchi and Sachin-Jigar is also decent though there are no chartbuster songs in the album. National Award-winning editor Sreekar Prasad does a good job in the editing. The production values were top-notch.
Review:
Angrezi Medium is the sequel for the 2017 film Hindi Medium. The predecessor had its soul in the right place. It was also accompanied by great performances. Coming to this film, it has a great cast but the script is a big let down. It never takes off and you feel like watching a family drama of the 1960 era. Talented actors like Ranvir Shorey and Dimple Kapadia have nothing great to offer. It is Irrfan and Deepak Dobriyal who make it a passable affair. Without them, Angrezi Medium is literally nothing. Thus, you can watch this film only for the superlative performances of Irrfan and Mr. Dobriyal.
Plus Points:
Irrfan Khan
Comedy scenes with Deepak Dobriyal
Radhika Madhan
Minus Points:
Outdates storyline
Prolonged screenplay
Lack of emotional depth
Final Verdict: Angrezi Medium is a partly funny and partly boring movie
