After scoring two consecutive flops with NTR: Kathanayakudu and NTR: Mahanayakudu, Nandamuri Balakrishna has now come up with a new film, Ruler. Directed by KS Ravi Kumar, this film featured Vedhika and Sonal Chauhan in the female lead roles. Balayya is eyeing to score a hit at any cost this time and Ruler has hit the screens today. Did Balayya hit the bullseye or missed it again? let us find out.
Story:
Sarojini Prasad (Jayasudha) is a big industrialist. One day, she comes across a person (Balakrishna) who is severely wounded and doesn't remember his past. She gives him shelter and raises him as her son, by giving the name, Arjun Prasad. Arjun Prasad takes Sarojini's company to the top position internationally. Meanwhile, his mother gets insulted in Uttar Pradesh, when she visits the state on the works of one of her projects. After hearing the news, Arjun Prasad immediately goes to the U.P. and shockingly, everyone starts referring to him as Dharma. What is his connection to those people? Who is Dharma? What is the role of Nirajana (Bhumika) in this story? To know all this, watch the film in theatres.
Performances:
Balakrishna gave his heart and soul to the film. He sported different getups in the film and you have to commend him for his dedication. Rest others do not have any scope to act in. Bhumika Chawla is good in her role and so was Prakash Raj. Jayasudha did justice to her character. Both the heroines Vedhika and Sonal Chauhan have nothing to do much except for the glamour show in the movie.
Technical Aspects:
Paruchuri Murali has penned the story of Ruler. It is an age-old story and the film should have got made at least 15 years back. The current generation is not accepting this kind of films and it is high time that our makers realize the fact. Director KS Ravi Kumar couldn't save this lethargic film. Even his work is below par. The production values of C. Kalyan were not up to the mark. Chirantan Bhatt's music is average and the background score is very loud. Ram Prasad's cinematography is good. The way he shot the action scenes was commendable. The editing should have been crisper and the film feels so long and dragged.
Review:
Ruler is a film which is not at all suitable for the present-day audiences and even for the mass film lovers. The story is predictable, the screenplay is bad and it is only Balayya who is the saving grace of the film. The first half is okayish and the second half is quite lethargic. On the whole, it turned out to be a disappointment from Balakrishna. Balakrishna's fans can only feast on his steps in the first song and a couple of action sequences. The rest of the film is totally avoidable for them. Coming to a normal audience, it is better if they forget that this movie got released.
Plus:
1. Balakrishna
2. A couple of songs and action scenes
Minus:
1. Old plot
2. Lethargic screenplay
3. Poorly written characters
4. No scope for heroine roles.
Final Verdict:
An utter disappointment form the star hero.
